Well, the “fiscal cliff” has been averted, but to what end? It was nothing but a political construct, built in the failed negotiations about the debt ceiling last year. Yes, it was only last year. How short our memories are. But the “sequestration” cuts built into that agreement have been kicked down the road for only two more months.
And, in case you did not know, the debt ceiling was reached and breached on December 31. We are now living on accounting tricks from Geitner and Bernanke. Feel good yet?
So, the debt ceiling is coming up again, as is the fight over the sequestration cuts, and budget cuts of all kinds. And we have to rely on the same pair of castrated Republicans to fight over this, even in the face of fierce opposition from Obama, who has declared that he will not countenance a new battle.
The Republicans vow a fight. As seen in the Breitbart article here. Do you believe that they really will?
